Squarespace design is stunning. Here's where it gets in the way.

Squarespace wins on polish. The templates look professional out of the box, and the editor is designed for people who care about craft. But as your brand evolves, three specific limits start showing up.

Your template becomes a cage.

Squarespace has about 200 templates. Once you pick one, everything you design lives inside its structure — and switching templates means rebuilding from scratch. Major design changes that would be global in WordPress require page-by-page manual work. As your brand evolves, the template fights you instead of helping you.

Transaction fees eat into creator income.

Basic plan: 3% fee on product sales, 7% on memberships and digital content — on top of the 2.9% + $0.30 Stripe processing. Online course creators, photographers selling prints, and membership sites lose 7% of every sale unless they upgrade to the $39/mo Plus plan, and digital fees only hit zero at $99/mo Advanced.

The ecosystem stays small. WordPress's keeps growing.

Squarespace has its own integrations marketplace, but the ecosystem is curated — limited. WordPress has 59,000+ plugins covering everything from SEO to memberships to niche industry tools. Anything Squarespace doesn't build, you can't add without custom code injection or hiring a developer.

Sound familiar? We move Squarespace sites to WordPress every week — without losing the design that made you choose Squarespace.

What you get with a Squarespace to WordPress migration

Every migration includes the full stack — not as add-ons. Your design, your content, your commerce, your SEO, your freedom.

Squarespace XML export imported for blog posts, then cleaned up and enhanced
All images downloaded and re-uploaded to WordPress media library (export misses images)
Custom CSS and design tokens rebuilt in WordPress
Squarespace Commerce → WooCommerce (zero platform transaction fees forever)
Squarespace Member Areas → Paid Memberships Pro or MemberPress
Squarespace Scheduling (Acuity) → Amelia or keep Acuity with WordPress integration
Squarespace Email Campaigns → FluentCRM, MailPoet, or Mailchimp integration
Full on-page SEO: Rank Math, schema markup, XML sitemap, Open Graph
301 redirects from every Squarespace URL — rankings preserved

14 days of post-launch support

From Squarespace to ranking WordPress site in 7 days

One predictable process. No surprises, no scope creep, no "it's almost done."

1
Day 1

Free Audit

Share your Squarespace site link and run the XML export from Settings → Advanced → Import/Export. We inventory every page, product, blog post, member area, booking type, and gallery — then send a fixed quote within 24 hours. No sales call required unless you want one.

2
Days 2–5

Rebuild

Pixel-accurate WordPress build in your chosen editor. Every page from Squarespace recreated — same fonts, same colors, same layouts, same responsive behavior. The XML export handles basic pages and blog posts; everything the export misses (portfolio pages, gallery pages, custom CSS, store) gets rebuilt by hand. Your Squarespace site stays live throughout.

3
Day 6

Content + SEO

Blog posts imported from the XML file. All images downloaded from Squarespace CDN and re-uploaded to WordPress — they'd break when you cancel Squarespace otherwise. Commerce moved to WooCommerce, Scheduling migrated, Member Areas rebuilt. Full SEO setup: schema, sitemap, Rank Math, Search Console, 301 redirects.

4
Day 7

Handoff

DNS cutover from Squarespace to your new WordPress host. Personal training video walking you through editing the site. 14 days of support included. You own the WordPress admin, the code, every asset. Your Squarespace subscription can be cancelled the same day — no more transaction fees on memberships or digital content.

FAQ

Squarespace to WordPress — frequently asked questions

I heard Squarespace can export to WordPress — is the migration automatic?
Partially — and that's the important word. Squarespace exports an XML file that imports cleanly into WordPress for basic pages and blog posts. But the export has significant gaps: no images (only broken references), no product pages, no portfolio/album/gallery/index pages, no custom CSS, no headers/footers/sidebars. For a small text-only site, the XML export is maybe 40% of the work. For anything visual — which is most Squarespace sites — the XML is a starting point, not a migration.
What happens to my Squarespace design when moving to WordPress?
We rebuild it pixel-accurate in WordPress. Every font, color, spacing value, breakpoint, and hover state matches your Squarespace original. We use Elementor or Gutenberg as the editor — both are visual drag-and-drop tools, not unlike Squarespace's editor. Your template-level design is preserved; the difference is you can now evolve it freely without being locked into a Squarespace template structure.
Will my Squarespace images transfer?
Not through Squarespace's XML export alone — it only references image URLs, which means your images would break the moment you cancel your Squarespace subscription. We handle this properly: every image is downloaded from Squarespace's CDN before cutover, uploaded to your WordPress media library, and re-linked in your posts and pages. After migration, your images live entirely on your WordPress host — no dependency on Squarespace.
What about my Acuity Scheduling (Squarespace Scheduling)?
Two options. (1) Keep Acuity and integrate it with WordPress via its embed widget — works fine, preserves all your booking history and settings. (2) Migrate to a WordPress-native alternative like Amelia or Simply Schedule Appointments, which typically costs less long-term and integrates more deeply with your WordPress site. Most clients keep Acuity for the first 3–6 months, then evaluate switching.
Can you migrate my Squarespace Commerce store to WooCommerce?
Yes, and this is one of the highest-value migrations we do. Squarespace's cheaper plans charge 3% on product sales and 7% on digital content/memberships. WooCommerce charges zero platform fees forever — on any WordPress hosting plan. Products, variants, categories, images, and customer data all migrate. For creators and membership sites, the savings often pay for the migration within 2–3 months.
Will I lose my Google rankings when moving from Squarespace to WordPress?
Not if done right. We set up 301 redirects from every Squarespace URL to the matching WordPress URL before launch. Google reads these and transfers your rankings to the new site. Rankings typically stabilize within 2–4 weeks and often improve over time due to WordPress's deeper SEO tools (Rank Math, schema generators, better Core Web Vitals control).
I sell memberships or digital products — what's the WordPress equivalent?
WordPress wins decisively here. Squarespace charges 7% on memberships and digital content unless you're on the $99/mo Advanced plan. WordPress alternatives like MemberPress, Paid Memberships Pro, and WooCommerce Memberships charge zero platform fees — just the standard 2.9% + $0.30 Stripe processing. A $10K/month membership site saves $700/month in platform fees on the switch. That's $8,400/year straight back to you.
What about my Squarespace domain?
Your domain is yours — whether you registered it through Squarespace (which acquired Google Domains in 2024) or elsewhere. We repoint DNS from Squarespace to your new WordPress host on handoff day. You can also transfer the domain registration to a cheaper registrar like Namecheap or Porkbun if you want to drop Squarespace entirely. We handle the DNS setup as part of the project.
How long does a Squarespace to WordPress migration take?
Most Squarespace projects finish in 5–7 days. Small sites (5–10 pages, text-focused): 3–4 days. Multi-page sites with blogs and galleries: 5–7 days. Sites with Commerce, Member Areas, or large portfolios: 8–12 days. The XML export speeds up blog post migration, but everything visual — galleries, custom design elements — still needs hand work.
Can I still edit the site visually after migration, like I did on Squarespace?
Yes — this is critical, and we build every Squarespace migration with that in mind. Elementor and Gutenberg are visual editors with drag-and-drop interfaces similar to Squarespace's. Click to edit text. Drag to move sections. Change colors and fonts through global styles. Upload images from the media library. Your personal training video walks through exactly how to edit the site — and you'll find most of the workflows feel familiar from Squarespace.
